Van Wilder, Dr. Sowell, and Johnny Cash

Video: Van Wilder...I loved the movie Van Wilder, as a comedy, but this modern day Van Wilder makes me wonder... what if I did this? Well first of all I couldn't realistically afford it, especially at Marquette... but if I could afford it, would it be worth it? I feel part of everyone wants to stay in college forever, because it represents a time in life with the most amount of freedom and the least amount of responsibility. While I may think back to the "good ol days" of college every now and then (almost a whole year now)... I am glad I am working and doing something new and it feels great being financially independent... In wondering what drove him to do this, I classify him as a pleasure seeker (I diagnose myself the same often), who does not want any of the responsibility associated with the "real world" and comfortable living the college dream. I think he is entitled to do whatever he wants, and think it's great that he enjoys it... but concerning whether I could do it, I think I would feel I would be wasting my life after about 6 years in college... and to get to the point where he is, I might feel sick...

Just a note, I bet some people in Wisconsin are thinking this guy is wasting your tax dollars... don't worry, I read an interview where he said he didn't think it would be fair for Wisconsin taxpayers to subsidize his education, so he pays full out of state tuition... enjoy the clip!

Article: Scandals? What Scandals?

Dr. Sowell is one of my favorite columnists and writers... his books are great if you have a chance to check them out concerning his views on Economics or just his life story itself is truly inspiring... I enjoy the article because it is funny what gets called a scandal these days... is seems often ridiculous items like the Duke Rape Case that was dropped... Imus' comments... Donald vs Rosie... Firing of U.S. Attorney's... the word Halliburton... all these things amount to huge scandals... when first of all, there are much more important things going on (as I pointed out in an earlier post), but also the slant many of these scandals take...

I think a lot of the blogosphere is bringing about more balanced news, or atleast reporting stories that would not have been discovered 30 years ago... for example the remarks made recently on Michael McGee Sr.'s talkshow about how the mother of Charlie Sykes "had what was coming to her" after her recent death in a fire. This was brought to the attention of Milwaukee news (JSOnline and local news) by those writing blogs... the blogs also discovered the Dan Rather scandal... so it is bringing about a little more fair reporting I think and competition... people may be changing how they get their news as newspaper subscriptions are falling every year, and more people depend on The Drudge Report and online news... here is a article that is a little old, but relevant when discussing "mainstream media", as it may no longer be the mainstream... watch out for the bloggers! Check out any of the Blogs I have on the right column, they all inspired me to start my own blog.

Song: When the Man Comes Around, Johnny Cash

I love Johnny Cash, and I thank Walk the Line for introducing me... he is a great story teller and the lyrics to this song are amazing. Folsom Prison Blues is my ringtone and I never want to answer since I am loving the song so much. Thanks for this recent suggestion from the Xistris family!

Good post. So true. Seems like blogs have been picking steam a lot. Many Wisconsin bloggers who started out as just political commentators now have columns in papers like the Freeman. In a sense it's weird because the only thing that qualifies them is that they started their own blog and people read it, but they have an audience. People like it, they want more of it.

Therefore, blogs are capitalism at its finest, and I love them.

Go America!
